Screen time for children

Introduction :

Are you careful about your children who spend most of their time on screen? 

When we think about how much time your children spend with screens  it includes all these different devices and time spent viewing at home and other places like child care.

 

Screen time might help in the moment, but it's repeatedly use and over time, means your child won’t learn how to self-soothe without it. Use screen time as a chance to interact with your children and teach lessons about the world. Don't let your children spend time alone just staring at a screen.

Stat:

 In 2018, kids advertising spending amounted to 4.2 billion U.S. dollars worldwide. Expenditure is forecast to reach 4.6 billion U.S. dollars by 2021, out of which an estimated 1.7 billion is projected to stem from digital advertising formats.

Age Limit :

⚫ 18 months old babies should have no screen time at all except video chatting with grandparents and family friends.
⚫ 18 months to 24 months old (Toddlers) can start some screen time with parent or caregiver.
⚫ 2 and 5 years old kids should watch screen minimum 1 hour per day.

Good Screen time & Bad Screen time:

All the screen time is not equal. For example,

▶️  If you are playing an interactive color game with your baby on any gadget or watching good quality educational programs together then it is good screen time.

▶️ But If you are plopping your toddler down in front of the TV and other devices to watch your favourite shows, programs with you then it is "bad screen time"


In today's world, it can be tough to keep children and toddlers away from all the TVs, smartphones,tablets computers,and gaming systems they'll see.

Let's face it: Screens are everywhere around us. Your little one is probably going to spend some time looking at one, so make sure his or her screen time is as productive as possible.

Here are some tips to solve these screen time problems.
⚫ Keep an eye on your children, what they are seeing.Point out them about good behaviour like cooperation and concerns for others.
⚫ Encourage your child to learn other activities such as arts, sports, music and activities that don't involve screens.
⚫ Guide your children about online privacy and security.
⚫ Encourage them to use screens for purpose of building creativity and connecting with friends and family.
⚫ Choose educational, age-appropriate and interactive programs and apps. Educational apps have a clear learning goal and encourage participation.
⚫ Familiarize yourself with programming.
⚫ Get awareness about advertising and Know how it influences choices.
⚫ Use a calm voice and acknowledge your child's frustration and try to redirect his interest to another activities or toy.
⚫ Schedule plenty of non-screen time into your child's day.
⚫ Family meals and bedtimes are also important times to put the screens away and interact with your children.


▶️ If you are concerned about your child’s screen time, talk to your family physician.  If problems persist, ask for a referral to a qualified mental health professional.

Conclusion:

Most of a child's brain development happens in the first 2 years of his life. That's why it's very important for babies and toddlers to explore their environment and experience many sense like sights, tastes, sounds and textures. Playing and Interecting with others helps children to learn about the world around them.
